Fluoride is a toxic, non biodegradable,
environmental pollutant, disposed of in our water supply. Classified as a
contaminant by the US Environmental Protection Agency, it is hazardous
industrial waste; a by product from the manufacturers of phosphate
fertilisers. Hydrofluosilicic acid, the most common fluoridation additive,
contains other toxic substances including lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic
and radionuclide, etc. Sodium fluoride, the toxic by product of the
aluminium smelting industry, is also used in fluoridation and is added to
toothpaste in high concentration.
Leading researchers have reported many
adverse effects from fluoride, at the level and even far less than the
level used in water fluoridation.
"Fluoride causes more human cancer
death, and causes it faster than any other chemical." Dean Burk,
Chief Chemist Emeritus, US National Cancer Institute.
Federal research found fluoride causes
cancer in humans and animals! National Toxicology program (NTP) 1990.
National Cancer Institute (NCI) (HHS Fluoride Report 2/91). Fluoride
accumulates in the body like lead, inflicting its damage over long periods
of time. Fluoride is more toxic than lead and just slightly less toxic than
arsenic. (Clinical Toxicology, 1984)
The American Medical Association (AMA)
issued a news release titled "Study links fluoride to rare bone cancer" on
8/12/93. This study also showed that hip fractures were 27% higher in women
and 41% higher in men in the fluoridated city. Hip fractures (potentially
fatal to the elderly) are linked to fluoridated water. (Journal of the

Health, 7/90 etc.
The harmful effects of this poison have
been proven in many courts of law, medical research laboratories and through
extensive scientific investigation. Despite the plethora of evidence proving
the harmful effects of fluoride on humans, animals and the environment, the
Federal goal is to have mandatory fluoridation of the water supply in 75% of
all US cities by the year 2000.
Fluoride is a cumulative enzyme poison!
Fluoride and fluorides act as direct
cellular poisons by interfering with calcium metabolism and enzyme
mechanisms. (Handbook of poisonings, 1983). Fluorides are used in
biochemistry laboratories to stop enzyme activity and they have the same
effect in the human body. Enzymes control EVERY metabolic function of the
body. Our bodies can do nothing without enzymes! All cellular activity is
initiated by enzymes and live enzymes are essential for vitality and
immunity.
Not only does fluoride inhibit vital
enzymes, it also weakens the immune system and disrupts DNA function.
Further, it causes disruption of collagen which adversely affects the skin,
arteries, ligaments, cartilage and tendons. The health of our nation is
being jeopardised, particularly high risk categories such as people with
kidney impairment, allergies or sensitivities to fluoride, the new born,
large water consumers and the malnourished.
Contrary to popular belief, fluoride does
not have a major impact on cavities incidence. It has been shown to reduce
cavities by 1/2 cavity per person per life time. (Chemical & Engineering
News (C&EN). 5/8/89.) Federal statistics found fluoridation ineffective!
(National Institute of Dental Research (NIDR). 1990 analysis of a major
study done of approximately 40,000 school children. Statistics show that
tooth decay has declined everywhere in the developed world and that tooth
decay rates are the same among people who are exposed to fluoride and people
who are not.
Fluoride is not an essential nutrient as
claimed. It is regulated by the (FDA) Food and Drug Administration as a
prescription drug. However it is NOT permitted to be added to our food
supply, yet it is in all kinds of foods processed with fluoridated water!
The Physicians Desk Reference (PDR) reports numerous side effects, such as
headaches, nausea, or vomiting, gastric distress, skin eruptions, weakness,
pain or aching bones, mottled teeth, etc., with special cautions to pregnant
and breast feeding mothers, and people with under active thyroids.
Human beings are drinking toxic
industrial waste! Fluoride is BIG BUSINESS, billions of dollars per year and
has a BIG lobbying budget. By dumping toxic waste into our water supply it
solves the industry's disposal problem and they get paid for it.
Dr. William Marcus, senior science advisor
and chief toxicologist at the EPA, was fired in May 1992 for ONE reason: his
disclosures on fluoridation hazards, including bone cancer in animals and
humans (includes government studies) and bone fractures in fluoridated
areas. Dr Marcus said, "If this were any other chemical but fluoride,
there would be a call for the immediate cessation of its use. It shows
potential for great harm." After a long fight, Dr. Marcus was
reinstated on 2/28/95.
Fluoridation has been rejected in most of
western Europe, and legally banned in Holland, Denmark and Sweden. I live in
Salem, Oregon. Our water has been fluoridated for many years. In Portland
waters have rejected Fluoride numerous times. Yet on March 15, 1995, a bill
went before the House of Representatives and a companion bill to the Senate
that proposes mandatory fluoridation of all cities in Oregon with population
over 40,000.
Fluoride Poisoning
"Fluoride blamed in three deaths."
Chicago Sun Times, July 31, 1993. "Fluoride poisoning was blamed Friday in
the July 16 deaths of three dialysis patients at the University of Chicago
Hospital. Three women died and six other kidney patients suffered an
allergic reaction after they underwent dialysis July 16." The Chicago
Tribute, July 31, 1993. High fluoride levels in the water caused heart
failure in the three who died.
"Massive fluoride poisoning at Jonesboro
Maine School" sent sixty students and teachers to hospital following an
overdose of fluoride in the schools water supply. Parents and school
officials had been assured "nothing could go wrong" and even if it did, the
fluoride would be "completely harmless". The Maine Paper, Oct 19, 1991.
Fourty school children suffered abdominal
pains, sickness, vomiting and diarrhoea when "Heavy" levels of fluoride got
into the system in Pertage, Michigan, July 3, 1991. Kalamazoo M1 Gazette,
July 10,1991.
Incidents like these occur often.
Scientific evidence proves that even the smallest amount of poison is
cumulative in the body and damaging to health.
Fluoridation has been masquerading as a
public HEALTH measure for years.
We have the right of individual choice
to say NO to water fluoridation. It is time to exercise that right.
