It's all bottled up
Throughout the United
States of America, the States are pushing for mandatory laws forbidding
soft drinks in school tuck shops.
The States have a
preponderance of well-meaning dental people and parents supporting that
action.
They believe drinks like
Coca-Cola can cause dental decay, not withstanding the dentists' claim for
stopping dental decay with fluoridation.
Now comes the bottle
plant!
The great surprise
surfaced 3rd March, 2003 with an official special announcement that
Coca-Cola had presented the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (AAPD),
recognised as the leader in children's dental health, with a huge grant.
The Coca-Cola Foundation
has pledged a donation of $1.63 million to the AAPD.
The AAPD -
"supports public
education and research activities, such as its Good Health Stares Here
campaign, which raises awareness about children's dental hygiene, diet
and nutrition, dental visits AND Fluoride." (Source American
Academy of Paediatric Dentistry)
The deal has been
decried by health experts because of the evidence connecting excessive
consumption of soft drinks to children's cavities.
Some health experts in
the U.S. have opposed this Coca-Cola action as it could give an impression
that AAPD endorses the use of Coca-Cola for young children.
Well, that's how we
saw the bottled up commercial strike!
